The Village of Fredonia Online Surveys to guide the "Village of Fredonia's future development" are ready for your responses. Your input is important and needed. It's easy. Go to www.village.fredonia.ny.us to complete a survey on line. At the "Home page", "click" on "Village of Fredonia Community Opinion Survey." There are two surveys. If you are 18-24 years "click" on "Village of Fredonia Young Persons and SUNY Student Survey." As young people of the community, you may fill out both that survey and the "Village of Fredonia Community Opinion Survey. The surveys could be mailed to your home by calling (716) 679-2301.
Every answer will be noted, calculated and weighted for importance in decision making. All answers are confidential. The survey will be available through the first week in May and then removed from the website. The offer to submit your input ends May 8, 2008. We look forward to your survey response.
NEW CHAIRMAN: At the January meeting of the Fredonia-Pomfret Democratic Association, Susan Westling was confirmed as the new Chairman of the Association upon the resignation of Dick Smith. The Association would like to express its extreme gratitude to Mr. Smith for his leadership and hard work. Anyone wishing to contact the new chair can email her at stw1107@yahoo.com. The chair has also challenged all Democrats to bring a friend to the Association meetings, held on the first Tuesday of each month at the American Legion. The person who brings the most new people to meetings over the next year will get a prize - a gift certificate for dinner for two at a local restaurant.
CONTACT TOWN ELECTED OFFICIALS ON NEW COUNCIL MEMBER: All Fredonia-Pomfret Democrats are urged to contact our Town of Pomfret Supervisor Don Steger (672-2769) and Council members Bill Hart (679-1943) and Pat Christina (679-1508) to urge them to support a Democrat to replace outgoing Democratic Council member Dave Kleparek. The Association unanimously endorsed Bob McGaughey as the replacement at the January meeting, and urge you to support his candidacy. McGaughey was the third top vote getter in the last election. The Council will be doing interviews January 21, 2008. Vote will likely take place at the Council February meeting.
RECORDING SECRETARY NEEDED: Want to become more involved? The Association is looking for a Recording Secretary to take minutes at the meetings. Anyone interested in this position should contact Susan Westling at stw1107@yahoo.com.
It was a "dark and stormy night"...Actually it was a dark, windy, rainy day but six brave Democrats got out with brooms, rakes and trash bags to "do what needed to be done!" Bill Hart, Bob McGaughey, Rebecca White, Joe Cerrie, Susan Mackay and Steve Keefe (not pictured) took on the task of cleaning up downtown Fredonia or at least five blocks of it.
The Saturday, October 20th, event was coordinated and prompted by Richard Cimino, a young adult who wants to give back to his community on a regular basis---by putting the best face on a downtown often criticized for its cigarette butts and weekend litter.
The proposal has been made for the Fredonia-Pomfret Democratic Association to adopt a sidewalk downtown and maintain it. It's one more example of Democrats taking a "hands on" approach to caring for their community.
